Down syndrome is an intellectual disability. It means that Emma takes longer to master skills and is therefore a little bit behind ‘the curve’ in her development. She’s almost 19 months old and not walking, but you can see she surely gets around!! Even stops for a sneaky drink halfway to the destination... we are so proud of the way she’s tracking!!
I had an ‘I want to punch you in the face’ moment when a lady at the doctor’s waiting room told me that Emma is lazy because she’s not walking. Just because a disability isn’t obvious, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. She’ll get there, when she’s ready, and we’re in no hurry to make her do it earlier. She needs to pass all the milestones on the way so that when she walks, she walks correctly.
Watch this space, this kid WILL astound you.
